Why you should replace your air filter this winter

Air Quality

We stress preventative maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment all the time, but this doesn’t simply mean annual tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s an easy way to help keep your system operating smoothly and improve your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Now is the best time to check your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are many benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to instigate a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Extra dirt that is built up on your filter can force your whole system to work harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your house. The older a filter gets, the less effective it is in catching things like dust and mold that can impact the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them moving in your home. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and remain healthy during allergy season.

Examine your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Brandon Heating and Plumbing (1998) Ltd., we advise an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to change your air filter? You can always ask our Brandon experts about what filters are available, timing or any other ideas on staying comfortable this spring.
